Workers' Rights

The Office of the New York State Attorney General protects workers across the entire state. We investigate complaints regarding wage and hour claims, benefits, paid leave, job safety, discrimination, and harassment. If we find that an employer is in violation of the law, we act on behalf of affected employees, including getting back pay, reinstatement, and changes in behavior and policies.

Attorney General James secures $16.75 million for delivery workers cheated by DoorDash

DoorDash did not pay some delivery workers their full customer tips between May 2017 and September 2019. Attorney General James is returning $16.75 million to affected workers, who can file a claim with the administrator, Atticus Administration.

Alcohol-delivery platform Drizly misled New Yorkers into thinking that customers’ tips went directly to workers. Attorney General James secured $4 million from Drizly to repay eligible workers, who can file a claim with the administrator, Simpluris.

New York Attorney General Letitia James announced two landmark settlements totaling $328 million with rideshare companies Uber and Lyft for cheating drivers out of hundreds of millions of dollars. Eligible drivers can file a claim to receive the funds they are owed.
